The leaders of our Diocese have been long-time members of SVdP and they are encouraging us to grow of our SVdP activity. There are a dozen active members of St. John’s SVdP conference who are called to bring the love of God, and the compassion of Jesus, to those who are poor and suffering. We always welcome additional members who respond to the call to join us and grow spiritually through this blessed activity.
Your charitable donation will enable us to continue to follow Pope Francis’ ministry and help those in need shelter and feed their families. Please consider a contribution to SVdP! You can mail a contribution to the Parish Office, or put a designated envelope in the collection next Sunday.
Welcome to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. John the Evangelist Conference. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic lay organization of men and women who seek growth in faith and holiness through service to individuals and families in need.
Most Rev. John Quinn, Bishop of the Diocese of Winona, is also the National Episcopal Advisor for the Society of St. Vincent De Paul. Last year, Bishop Quinn asked that conferences of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul be formed at parishes in our diocese to provide a new opportunity for faith communities to serve both individuals and families in need. The “conference” is the local organization of the Society. This year, five parishes in Rochester formed St. Vincent De Paul conferences, including St. John the Evangelist, St. Pius X, Pax Christi, Church of the Resurrection, and St. Francis of Assisi. The process of formally establishing our conference took almost 6 months. Our SJE Conference began service to those in need began in May 2011.
Members of the Society, called “Vincentians”, provide person-to-person assistance by visiting those in need in their homes. Our conference meets twice a month on the first and third Thursday evenings for spiritual reflection, discussion and decision-making, and fellowship. There are different categories of membership including active members, associate members, and contributing members.
